It’s happened to all of us digital creatives. The dreaded day when you just cannot get one of your Adobe applications to launch. Usually there’s a deadline looming (of course). You’ve restarted your computer (three times) and still you cannot get Photoshop to launch. You’ve tried a few tips from some Google searches, but still nothing. Your geek cred is showing it’s limitations. And your deadline isn’t getting any further away.

Archive That Artwork! Backup Tips & Software Advice for Mac OS X

Backup. It’s something most computer users – let alone artistic types – never think about, at least not until after it’s too late. Trust me, once it happens to you, it will never be forgotten. Perhaps I can convince you to never have to go through that by recommending you start your backup system now.

All that precious time spent creating, tweaking, and perfecting your masterpiece is well worth a few measly bucks and a bit of effort (which will be automated once it’s all set up) to ensure you don’t lose those hours of hard work.

Quit Photoshop to save your custom Actions

Arrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!

You just fine tuned a custom action in Photoshop to, say, convert an image to CMYK, resize without resampling to 300 dpi and save as a .psd file, to like, save a bunch of time.

Then, to your dismay, Photoshop crashes because of the 7,492 Dashboard Widgets and shareware doodads you have running simultaneously (even though you know better).

And your custom Action is GONE.
